Nobel Laureate Week: Official Opening Ceremony

THE HARROWING OF BENJY” Directed by Gandolph St. Clair
Performed by SAT (Soufriere Action Theatre)

THE PLAY: Written by Roderick Walcott in the 1950s, the play was premiered by the Arts Guild. In 1957 the play won five awards at the annual Arts Festival in Jamaica and had the distinction of being the most performed play in the English- speaking Caribbean during the decade of the 1950s

THE PLAY First produced in 1974, The Joker of Seville is the first of several musical collaborations between Derek Walcott and Galt MacDermont; the Grammy award-winning composer of the musical “Hair” The Joker of Seville is an adaptation of the 1634 play El Burlador de Sevilla, by Spanish playwright Tirso de Molina.
